The History of Roberts Creek
When you come to Roberts Creek, you might picture life as a homesteader some years ago. Thomas Roberts was the first to clear some flat land near the creek for a home and garden in 1889. Roberts family members were responsible for much of the early development of the area. Today, Roberts Creek real estate is still one of the most rural settings along the Sunshine Coast.
With an abundant resource of trees available, Harry Roberts constructed a saw mill and used the lumber for vacation cottages he built. Most of the new houses and government construction contain local lumber. The government wharf was completed in 1914 which greatly improved the transport of supplies to and from Roberts Creek. Before then, goods and passengers were rowed or towed out to meet larger vessels. That independent “can do” spirit is still part of the culture of the local population.
Roberts Creek Today
Roberts Creek Community Association gives residents a strong voice in planning and operating the town. It’s an active group that fosters participation and local control. When the Roberts Creek Community Hall, a hub of the town’s activities needed some renovation, much of the work was accomplished with volunteer labor. This is a town where you can make a difference.
Roberts Creek General Store offers supplies, videos and a place to run into a friend. Check out the bulletin board for local happenings and information while you share an ice cream. You’ll probably see plans for a dance at the Community Hall, a social event for the young people or a notice of bingo night coming up.
There’s a soccer and basketball field at the elementary school which is highly rated by families living here. You’re liable to share the roadways with kids, dogs and bikes as you travel around. You’ll find places to enjoy good food and fresh baked treats. The local Legion branch plays host when you’re looking for a beer.
The beauty and peace of Sunshine Coast real estate seems to encourage creative spirits. Artists work here in a variety of mediums which are featured in several galleries in town.
